How do I set the report language and the maximum number of rows in a report?
Short answer
Both are set in the form opened with Generate Report on WAF Report. Report Language appears only when Report Type = xlsx or pdf; Default generates the report in the interface language of the user who makes the request, and another language can also be selected from the list. The html report always uses the interface language. The row limit is given, according to the selected type, with the HTML Max. Table Rows, XLSX Max. Table Rows or PDF Max. Table Rows field; at least 5 is entered, if the field is left empty 100 is used, and only the HTML field comes filled with the value 100. This value is the number of the most frequent values calculated for each breakdown; it is not the number of rows printed in the document: PDF tables show at most 10 rows (25 in the breakdowns without a chart), and XLSX sheets show at most 1,000 rows. The form selections are remembered per user. The scheduled e-mail report does not use these selections; it is generated in the default language of the device and with the 300 most frequent values in each breakdown.
Problem: The Report Is Wanted in Another Language or in More Detail
The report is to be sent to a team that uses the interface in a different language, or more than the default 100 values are to be seen in the breakdowns (signature, IP, path). These two settings are selected in the form while the report is being generated; they are not a persistent device setting.
Solution
WAF Report Form
- How it works The form determines the language of the report (only PDF and XLSX) and the number of values to be calculated in each breakdown. The selections are remembered per user; the vService report and the Global WAF Report form are remembered separately.
- Where it is opened On the vService screen, Dashboard → For Detailed Analysis → WAF Report → Generate Report · WAF → Global WAF Report → Generate Report
- Requirement For the vService report, WAF permission (the vService WAF screen where the report is opened, including the Dashboard tab, is opened with this permission); for Global WAF Report, WAF permission and an account whose permission is not limited to specific vServices
- vService type HTTP
Step-by-Step Configuration
On the Dashboard tab of the vService, the For Detailed Analysis → WAF Report shortcut is clicked; the WAF Report tab opens (how to access). For the global report, the WAF → Global WAF Report screen is opened.
Generate Report on the toolbar is clicked; the WAF Report form opens.
Report Type is selected. When xlsx or pdf is selected, the Report Language field appears and the row limit field takes the name of the selected type.
In the Report Language field, Default (the interface language of the user who makes the request) is left as it is or a language is selected from the list.
A value of at least 5 is entered in the HTML Max. Table Rows, XLSX Max. Table Rows or PDF Max. Table Rows field; if the field is empty, 100 is used.
| Format | Effect of the field | Rows visible in the document |
|---|---|---|
| html | Number of values calculated in each breakdown (default 100) | The calculated values are listed in the table on the tab |
| Number of values calculated in each breakdown | At most 10 per table (25 in the breakdowns without a chart); in the charts, the values whose share is 2% or below are gathered in a single Others item | |
| xlsx | Number of values calculated in each breakdown | At most 1,000 per sheet |
Accept is clicked; if pdf or xlsx was selected, the file is downloaded, and the html report is displayed on the tab.
Verification
The title and table labels of the downloaded file and, in XLSX, the number of rows on a breakdown sheet are examined.
Labels in the selected language; as many rows on the XLSX sheet as the entered value (at most 1,000)In Scheduled Reports
Periodic Reporting and the scheduled report of Global WAF Report do not use the language and the row limit in the form: the report is generated in the default language of the device (Localization → Default Language) and with the 300 most frequent values in each breakdown. To change the language of the scheduled report, the default language of the device is changed; this setting also affects the default language of the interface (Can I receive reports regularly by e-mail; at what times are they sent?).
Common Mistakes
- Looking for a language field in the HTML report. Report Language appears only for pdf and xlsx; the HTML report uses the interface language.
- Thinking that PDF tables will grow as long as the row limit. PDF tables show at most 10 (or 25) rows; for a longer list, XLSX is used.
- Making the row limit very large. As the value grows, the report calculates larger value sets and the generation takes longer; the 5-minute waiting time for HTML can be exceeded.
- Forgetting the old selections in the next report. The language, the row limit and the filter are remembered by the form.
