How is a quick search done in the menu and across vServices (Alt+T)?
Short answer
The Search TR7... field at the bottom left of the screen is clicked, or Alt+T is used on Windows and Linux and Option+T on macOS (Search Bar). In the window that opens, screen names, vServices, Backend Services, actions, conditions, profiles, certificates, AGS and network records are searched by name; the expression matches from the beginning of the word and at least 3 characters are required; details: Matching rules. If the results come from multiple groups, they are separated into the Navigation, vServices, Backends, Actions, Conditions, Profiles, Security, AGS and Network tabs. Selection is made with the up and down arrows, the tab is changed with the right and left arrows or with Tab, Enter opens and Esc closes. When a vService is selected, the Dashboard screen of the vService opens directly; while the box is empty, the recently opened and most visited screens are listed.
Problem: Navigating the Menu and the Objects Takes Time
Opening the menus one by one to reach the searched vService or menu screen among many screens and objects takes time.
Solution
Search Bar (Alt+T)
- How it worksSearch Bar searches in the menu screens the user is authorized for and in the names of the records; when a result is selected, the related screen opens. At most 50 results are listed in one search.
- Where it is opened Bottom left → Search TR7... · Alt+T (Option+T on macOS)
- Requirement No additional setting is required; only the screens and records the user is authorized for appear in the results.
- Scope All screens
Step-by-Step Configuration
Alt+T (Option+T on macOS) is used, or the Search TR7... field at the bottom left is clicked (How is it opened and closed). On the first opening in the session, Initializing search... appears while the search index is being prepared.
At least 3 characters from the beginning of a word of the searched name are typed (e.g. portal). vServices are found by their name and type, and Backend Services by their name and IP:port information.
If the results are spread over multiple tabs, the vServices tab is reached with the right and left arrows or with Tab.
A result is selected with the up and down arrows and Enter is pressed. When a vService is selected, the Dashboard screen opens; for the entire configuration, the Load Balancer Management tab is opened from there (How do I read the entire configuration of a vService on a single screen (Load Balancer Management)?).
Verification
The tab label of the opened screen is checked.
The Dashboard tab bearing the name of the selected vServiceCommon Mistakes
- Searching for a vService by IP address. The quick search finds vServices by their name and type; to find a vService by IP address, the search on the list screen is used (How do search, RegExp search and column-based search work on list screens?).
- Searching from the middle of a word. The expression matches from the beginning of the word; when
ervicesis typed, vServices is not found. - Searching for a menu group name. The group cards that list sub-screens do not appear in the search; the name of the sub-screen is typed (e.g.
Timeouts) (Configuration Menu · The Card Types). - Typing a very general expression. The 50-result limit can be filled in a single tab; if the searched record does not appear, the expression is narrowed.
- Confusing it with the Configuration Menu shortcut. The Configuration Menu is opened with Alt+M (How is it opened and closed).
