How do I see the change history of a single vService or Backend Service?
Short answer
The row is clicked in the object list; the Log tab of the preview that opens on the right lists the operations performed on that object (creating, editing, deleting, restarting, enabling and disabling) as a timeline with the information of who, when and from which address. When the pointer is moved over the Changes (N) mark of a record, the old and new values are seen field by field. The Log tab of a vService also shows the edits and deletions in objects used by the vService, such as Backend Services, conditions and profiles. By default, the last 10 records of the last 3 years are fetched; the range and limit can be changed, and the list can be exported as Excel or CSV. The history of deleted objects is searched on the User Logs screen (Settings → System Logs → User Logs).
Problem: When and How an Object Changed Is Not Known
The behavior of a vService or Backend Service has changed; it is desired to see, in order, only the changes made on that object and on the objects bound to it.
Solution: Three Methods
The history of existing objects is read from the Log tab in the preview, and the history of deleted objects from the User Logs screen.
| Your situation | Suitable method |
|---|---|
| The history of a vService | Method 1: vService → Log |
| The history of a Backend Service or Backend Group | Method 2: Backend Services → Log |
| The history of a deleted object or of records older than 3 years | Method 3: User Logs |
Method 1: vService → Log Recommended
- How it works The Log tab of the vService preview shows the operations of the vService and its bound objects as a timeline (Preview of the Selected vService).
- Where it is openedLoad Balancer vService List → row → right panel → Log · the panel on the vService screen → Log
- Requirement Admin and the roles with full permission in the Load Balancer area see everyone's operations; other users see their own operations.
- vService type HTTP · L7 TCP · Network
Step-by-Step Configuration
On the Load Balancer → Load Balancer vService List screen, the vService row is clicked; the preview opens on the right. The same tab is also found in the right panel on the vService screen (Panel Tabs).
The Log tab in the preview is clicked.
If older or more records are needed, the date range and the record limit are increased in the toolbar of the tab; the settings are stored per user.
The old and new values are read field by field by moving the pointer over the Changes (N) mark of a record.
Verification
A field is changed and saved in the vService, and the Log tab is refreshed.
A new record at the top and Changes (1)Method 2: Backend Services → Log
- How it works The Backend Service and Backend Group previews also have a Log tab; Log in the ⋮ menu of the preview opens the same records in a table window.
- Where it is openedBackend Services or Backend Groups (Pools) → row → right panel → Log (Preview of the Selected Backend Service)
- Requirement For vService-scoped users, the Log window in the ⋮ menu appears only if Backend Service Permission is on.
- vService type HTTP · L7 TCP · Network
Step-by-Step Configuration
On the Configuration Menu → Load Balancer → Backend Services screen, the row is clicked; the preview opens on the right.
The Log tab in the preview is clicked; the records are listed as a timeline.
To see all the records as a table, Log is selected in the ⋮ menu of the preview; in the window that opens, the range is selected and the Get Logs button is clicked.
Verification
The last record in the Log tab is checked.
The last operation on the Backend Service, with the user name and timeMethod 3: User Logs
- How it works The history of deleted objects and of records outside the range of the Log tab is searched in the device-wide user records.
- Where it is openedSettings → System Logs → User Logs
- Requirement The permission to see the Settings menu exists, among the built-in roles, in Admin and Read-only user; Admin sees all the records.
- vService type HTTP · L7 TCP · Network
Step-by-Step Configuration
Configuration Menu → Settings → System Logs → User Logs is opened and the Time Range is extended.
The Get Logs button is clicked.
In the Filter panel, Field = Traffic manager and the name of the object in the Object card are selected. Details: Can I see who made changes and when?
Verification
The filtered list is checked.
The creation, edit and deletion records of the objectCommon Mistakes
- Thinking that Status Logs is the change history. Status Logs shows the status transitions of the vService, not user operations (Where do I monitor the current status of my vService?).
- Thinking that there are no older records while the limit is 10. The limit and range are increased.
- Expecting the creation record of a bound object in the Log tab of the vService. Only the edit and deletion records of bound objects appear; the creation record is in the object's own Log tab.
- Searching for the history of a deleted object in the preview. Since a deleted object is not in the list, User Logs is used.
