Where do I change the interface language, theme, font and size for my own account?
Short answer
Personal preferences are changed on the Settings → General Settings → My Preferences screen (My Preferences): the Appearance section contains Theme (30 built-in themes and at most 20 custom themes), Interface Font (9 options, default Default (Segoe UI)) and Interface Size (75%, 80%, 90%, 100%, 110%, 125%, 150%; default 100%), the Layout section contains Header Bar, Preview Panel Layout and Preview Panel Mode, and the Language section contains User Language. There is no Save button; every selection is applied instantly and saved to the user account on the device, which is why it is also valid when logging in from another browser. The preferences affect only the signed-in account. The language and the theme can also be changed from the Language Selector and Theme Toggle widgets on the Header Bar. As long as User Language stays at Default, the interface opens in the device-wide Default Language set on the Localization screen. Restore Defaults returns the preferences to their defaults.
Problem: Appearance and Language Do Not Suit Everyone
The language, color scheme, font and size of the interface are a personal preference: administrators who speak different languages use the same device, texts look too small or too large on high-resolution or small screens, and a dark theme is preferred in a dark operations room. If these settings were applied device-wide, the change of one user would affect everyone; TR7 keeps them per user account.
Solution: Two Methods
Both methods change the same account preferences; the Header Bar is a shortcut for the language and the theme only.
| Your situation | Suitable method |
|---|---|
| I want to change my theme, font, size, layout or language preferences, or return them to default | Method 1: My Preferences |
| I want to quickly change only the language or the theme | Method 2: Header Bar widgets |
| I want to change the default language of all users | Device-wide setting: Default Language on the Localization screen |
Method 1: My Preferences Recommended
- How it works The personal preferences of the signed-in user are gathered on a single screen; the selections are applied instantly and saved to the account automatically (Where Do the Settings Take Effect?).
- Where it is opened Configuration Menu → Settings → General Settings → My Preferences
- Requirement None; each user changes their own preferences
- Scope Only the signed-in account; it does not affect the device or the other users
- Cluster Theme, Interface Font, Interface Size and Header Bar are also synchronized to the peer device; User Language, Preview Panel Layout and Preview Panel Mode are not synchronized
Step-by-Step Configuration
The Configuration Menu is opened by clicking the TR7 logo at the bottom left, and the Settings → General Settings → My Preferences steps are followed (how to edit). The screen opens on the User details tab.
In the Theme grid in the Appearance section, when the pointer rests briefly on a theme card, the theme is previewed across the whole interface; when the card is clicked, the selection becomes permanent. If no selection has been made, Light or Dark is applied according to the light or dark appearance preference of the operating system. To create one's own theme, the Manage Themes button is used (Custom Themes).
A font is selected from the Interface Font list: Default (Segoe UI), Inter (modern), IBM Plex Sans (technical), Roboto Condensed (narrow), Atkinson Hyperlegible (high legibility), JetBrains Mono (monospace), Operating system font, Tahoma (system) or Verdana (system, wide). JetBrains Mono comes with the device; the others use the fonts installed on the computer.
One of the Interface Size options is clicked: 75%, 80%, 90%, 100% (default), 110%, 125% or 150%. Texts, controls and icons grow or shrink together; the effect is similar to the browser zoom, but the selection is stored in the account, not in the browser.
A language is selected from the User Language list in the Language section (e.g. Türkçe, English). While Default is selected, the default language of the device is used.
If needed, Header Bar (Show / Hide / Remove), Preview Panel Layout (Vertical / Horizontal) and Preview Panel Mode (Inline / Overlay) can also be changed in the Layout section. There is no save step on this screen.
Verification
A session is opened with the same account from another browser or computer.
The selected theme, font, size and language come unchangedThe label of the button in the Reset section is read.
Restore Defaults (N): N, the number of preferences that differ from the defaultMethod 2: Header Bar Widgets
- How it works The Language Selector and Theme Toggle widgets in the right section of the default Header Bar layout change the same account preferences found in My Preferences.
- Where it is opened The Header Bar at the top of the screen → Language Selector (translation icon and language code, e.g. EN) · Theme Toggle (theme icon and theme name)
- Requirement The widgets being on the Header Bar; if they have been removed, they are added again with Header Options → Edit Header Bar
- Scope Only the language and the theme; the font and the size do not change with this method
Step-by-Step Configuration
The Language Selector widget on the Header Bar is clicked and a language (English, Türkçe) is selected from the list; the selection is applied without the page being refreshed.
The Theme Toggle widget is clicked and a theme is selected from the list that opens; the custom themes of the user are listed after the built-in themes.
Verification
The values shown by the widgets are examined.
Language Selector shows the new language code, Theme Toggle shows the new theme nameCommon Mistakes
- Thinking that the personal language selection affects all users. User Language affects only the signed-in account. The default language of all users is determined with Default Language on the Localization screen and is applied only to the users who leave their own language at Default.
- Looking for a Save button. There is no Save button on the My Preferences screen; the selection is applied and saved instantly.
- Using the browser zoom instead of Interface Size. The browser zoom is valid only in that browser; Interface Size is stored in the account and applies the same size in every browser.
- Thinking that Clear Everything resets only the preferences. Along with the preferences, Clear Everything in the Saved View State section also irreversibly deletes all the table layouts, chart settings and filter selections belonging to the user, and reloads the page. To return only the preferences to default, Restore Defaults is used.
- Thinking that in a cluster the language is also carried over to the peer device. Theme, Interface Font, Interface Size and Header Bar are synchronized; User Language and the preview panel preferences are selected separately on the peer device.
