How do I read the entire configuration of a vService on a single screen (Load Balancer Management)?
Short answer
In the Left Monitor Panel, the vService is clicked in the Load Balancer vServices category, and the Load Balancer Management tab is selected on the screen that opens. This tab shows the entire configuration of the vService in English sentences instead of form fields, in seven sections: entry addresses, Security Modules, Actions, Frontend Settings, HTTP Handling, LB Algorithm and Backend Services; incomplete settings are marked with an amber-colored phrase. The Edit link of each section opens the vService form directly at that section's fields. The screen is read-only; setting changes are made in the form.
Problem: The vService Settings Are Spread Across Different Screens
To see which profiles, actions, certificates and Backend Services a vService uses, many sections of the form and the linked objects have to be opened one by one. The goal is to read the entire configuration at a glance and to see missing settings immediately.
Solution: Three Methods
The three methods show the same record in different forms; to read it, choosing one of them is enough.
| Your situation | Suitable method |
|---|---|
| Reading the entire configuration in sentences | Method 1: Load Balancer Management |
| Visual flow diagram | Method 2: Load Balancer - ADC Data Flow Panel |
| From the command line | Method 3: WEB-CLI |
Method 1: Load Balancer Management Recommended
- How it works The Load Balancer Management tab reads the vService record in sentences divided into sections; when the record changes, the screen refreshes itself.
- Where it is opened Left Monitor Panel → Load Balancer vServices → vService → Load Balancer Management
- Requirement Permission to open the screen; the Edit links appear only for users who have write permission in the Load Balancer or WAF area.
- vService type HTTP · L7 TCP · Network (the section set narrows according to type)
Step-by-Step Configuration
In the Left Monitor Panel, Load Balancer vServices is selected from the category tabs at the top left, and the vService is clicked; the screen opens with the Dashboard tab that carries the vService's name.
The Load Balancer Management tab is clicked.
The sections are read from top to bottom: the entry section titled with the vService type (Frontend IPs, Virtual hosting, TLS termination, Trusted Proxy Profile boxes), Security Modules, Actions, Frontend Settings, HTTP Handling, LB Algorithm and Backend Services. On a Network vService, the Actions and HTTP Handling sections are not present; how the sections change by type is described under the Differences by vService Type heading.
The sentences are read according to the rule under the Reading the Sentences heading: a normal-colored sentence shows that the setting is defined and in effect, a faded sentence shows that the setting is not defined (e.g. Responses are not cached), and an amber phrase shows that the configuration is incomplete (e.g. TLS is terminated but no certificate is selected).
If a setting is to be corrected, the Edit link in the section header is clicked. The Edit of the first section titled with the type opens the entire form in a closable Edit tab; that of the other sections opens the form in a window with only that section's fields. The change is saved with the Save button in the form.
Verification
A profile assignment is changed and saved with a section's Edit link, and the tab is returned to.
The related sentence is updated without the screen being refreshedMethod 2: Load Balancer - ADC Data Flow Panel
- How it works The Load Balancer - ADC Data Flow Panel on the right of the vService screen draws the configuration as a flow diagram extending from the listener addresses to the Backend Services; items that are not configured do not appear in the diagram at all.
- Where it is opened Left Monitor Panel → Load Balancer vServices → vService → right panel → Details
- Requirement No additional setting is required.
- vService type HTTP · L7 TCP · Network
Step-by-Step Configuration
In the Left Monitor Panel, the vService is clicked in the Load Balancer vServices category. The panel appears on the right of the screen in the Dashboard and Load Balancer Management tabs.
The diagram in the Details tab of the panel is read (Panel Tabs). When a box in the diagram is clicked, the summary of that object opens; the pencil icon in the summary opens the edit window of the related setting, and the Go to Page button opens the record's own page. Details: What does the Data Flow Panel on the right of the vService screen show?
Verification
The diagram is compared with the sections in the Load Balancer Management tab.
The defined profiles, actions and Backend Services appear in the diagramMethod 3: WEB-CLI
- How it works The
lb service showcommand lists the fields of the vService record on the command line (lb service · Command Summary). - Where it is openedWEB-CLI
- Requirement CLI access must be enabled for the user.
- vService type HTTP · L7 TCP · Network
Step-by-Step Configuration
After lb service show is typed, the vServices are listed with the Tab key and the name of the vService is selected:
lb service show <vService>Verification
The command output is checked.
The fields and values of the vService record are listedCommon Mistakes
- Thinking that settings can be changed on this screen. The tab is a reading surface; changes are made in the vService form that the Edit link opens.
- Looking for the rules of the security modules here. The Security Modules section summarizes the status of the modules; Edit opens only the WAF, AGS and Bot/DDoS switches. The settings of a module are on its own screen, opened with the Management link at the bottom of the card.
- Looking for measurements in this tab. Request count, bandwidth and health history are in the Dashboard and Live Stats tabs.
- Taking a faded sentence for an error. A faded sentence shows that the setting is not defined; a missing or faulty configuration is marked with an amber phrase.
