What do the health colors and icons in the Backend Service list mean?
Short answer
The circle in the Health column shows the health check result: green OK, red Error, yellow Preparing, gray HC disabled or No data. On a Backend Service with no health check assigned, a dark gray power-off icon (Off) appears instead of the circle. In the Backend Groups list, yellow Partially healthy appears if the statuses of the members differ. In the name column, the amber lock shows that the SSL Service setting is on, the amber ambulance that the Maintenance Mode setting is on, and the amber backup server icon that the Backup Service setting is on.
Health Column
When the pointer is over the indicator, the name of the status is written as a tooltip.
| Indicator | Tooltip | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| Green circle | OK | The health check is successful; the Backend Service receives traffic |
| Red circle | Error | The health check failed as many times in a row as the Required Failures value in the profile; the Backend Service does not receive traffic |
| Yellow circle | Preparing | The profile has just been assigned or has changed; there are not yet enough results for a decision |
| Gray circle | HC disabled / No data | There is no check result, or no data has arrived yet |
| Dark gray power-off icon | Off | No health check is assigned to the Backend Service (Health Check: No Check) |
| Yellow circle (Backend Groups only) | Partially healthy | The statuses of the servers of the group differ |
While Clustering is on, the circle consists of two halves: the left half shows the status seen by this device, and the right half the status seen by the peer device; the tooltip shows the device name first, then the status.
Icons in the Name Column
| Icon | Tooltip | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| Amber lock | SSL service | TR7 connects to this Backend Service with TLS |
| Amber ambulance | Maintenance mode | The Backend Service is in maintenance; it does not receive new traffic |
| Amber backup server (database stack and return arrow) | Backup service | The Backend Service is a backup; it receives traffic only when all the main Backend Services in the same list are unavailable |
The icons appear only if the related setting is on.
Health Check Type Column
The Health Check Type column shows the assigned health check profile in the profile name (Type) format; if no profile is assigned, No Check is written.
In the Backend Groups List
- If the status of all servers in the group is the same, that status is shown; if it differs, yellow Partially healthy is shown.
- When the Show Backend Services switch is turned on, each server row shows its own status.
Common Misconceptions
- "The Health column shows the server in maintenance." The Health column shows only the health check result; maintenance is seen with the ambulance icon in the name column.
- "Off means the server is down." Off indicates that no health check is assigned; TR7 always considers this Backend Service available and sends traffic to it.
- "HC disabled in the Left Monitor Panel and Off in the list are different statuses." A Backend Service with no health check assigned appears as gray HC disabled in the Left Monitor Panel and as Off in the Backend Services list; the two are the same status.
- "Yellow always means a problem." Preparing is a temporary status in which the health check has not yet collected enough results to make a decision; e.g. it is seen when a profile has just been assigned.
