How do search, RegExp search and column-based search work on list screens?
Short answer
The Search box searches the typed text in the visible columns of the table without distinguishing upper and lower case; a row that matches in any column stays in the list. The RegExp icon inside the box performs the same search with a regular expression, and a second click returns to plain text. The Column Search icon opens a separate search box under the heading of each column; the boxes are applied together (AND), in each box inversion with Negate and per-column RegExp can also be selected, and while this view is open the general search box is not taken into account. Hidden columns and columns that carry on/off values are not included in the search; the column to be searched is first made visible from Columns.
Problem: The Searched Record Cannot Be Found in Long Lists
Among hundreds of vServices, Backend Services or profiles, the records that match or do not match a specific pattern need to be filtered quickly.
Solution: Three Methods
The three search forms are opened from the same box; one is selected according to the need. To select from a list of values, the Filter panel is used in addition.
| Your situation | Suitable method |
|---|---|
| Searching with free text | Method 1: Search |
| Finding the records that match a pattern | Method 2: RegExp |
| Searching column by column, together or inverted | Method 3: Column Search |
Method 1: Search Recommended
- How it works The text is searched in all the visible columns; a row that matches in any of them stays. The search applies across pages; Page Size only splits the view.
- Where it is opened List screen → Search box (
Search...) - Requirement No additional setting is required.
- Scope All table screens
Step-by-Step Configuration
Configuration Menu → Load Balancer → Load Balancer vService List is opened.
Text is typed into the search box (e.g. web). The search does not distinguish upper and lower case; the Turkish and English letter equivalents (ı, I, i, İ) are considered the same. In the vService list, the Status and WAF columns are not included in the search.
Verification
The Page Information field below the table is checked.
Showing N-M of T records: T is the number of filtered recordsMethod 2: RegExp
- How it works The search text is interpreted as a regular expression; the match does not distinguish upper and lower case.
- Where it is opened Search box → RegExp icon
- Requirement While Column search or Usage filter is on, the RegExp icon is hidden.
- Scope All table screens
Step-by-Step Configuration
The RegExp icon inside the search box is clicked.
A regular expression is typed. Examples:
| Expression | What it finds |
|---|---|
^prod-.*-https$ | Records whose name starts with prod- and ends with -https (e.g. prod-portal-https) |
192\.0\.2\.(10|20): | vServices that listen on the 192.0.2.10 or 192.0.2.20 address in the IP column; 192.0.2.100 does not match |
A dot (.) means any character in a regular expression; when an IP is searched, \. is typed.
When the work is done, the same icon is clicked again to return to plain text search.
Verification
The records remaining in the list are checked.
Only the records that match the patternMethod 3: Column Search
- How it works Each column is searched separately and the filled boxes are applied together (AND); Negate inverts the match in that column.
- Where it is opened Search box → Column Search icon
- Requirement The column to be searched must be visible.
- Scope All table screens
Step-by-Step Configuration
If the column to be searched is hidden (e.g. Algorithm in the vService list), the Columns button is clicked and the column is checked.
The Column Search icon inside the search box is clicked; a search box opens under each column heading. In this view, the general search box at the top is not taken into account.
For example, prod is typed into the Name box and HTTP into the Type box; the rows that meet both conditions stay.
If the Negate (!) button in a box is turned on, the rows that do not contain the text in that column stay (e.g. with Negate on and test typed in the Name box, those whose name does not contain "test"). The RegExp button in the box uses a regular expression only for that column.
Verification
The records remaining in the list are checked.
The records that meet all the filled column conditionsCommon Mistakes
- Assuming the dot and the asterisk are plain characters while RegExp is on. These characters carry a special meaning in a regular expression; if plain text is to be searched, RegExp is turned off or the character is written with
\. - Typing into the box at the top while Column search is on. The general search is not taken into account in this view.
- Expecting a search in hidden or on/off columns. These columns are not searched; for values such as WAF, the Filter cards are used.
- Confusing the list search with the quick search. For searching in the menu and across all objects: How is a quick search done in the menu and across vServices (Alt+T)?
