Can I create a new action, health check or SSL profile without leaving the vService form?
Short answer
For actions and SSL profiles, yes: the drop-down lists of the Actions and SSL Security selectors in the Details panel of the vService form have an Add button; the record is created in the window that opens and comes selected in the selector without the form being closed. The same button also exists in the Compression, Cache, Trusted proxy, LOG, Notification, Report, vService limits and Timeout selectors, in the condition selectors and in the Backend Service selector. Since a health check is assigned not to the vService but to the Backend Service, there is no selector for it in the vService form; a new Backend Service window is opened from the form and the profile is created with the Add button of the Health Check selector there. The Certificate selector has no Add; the certificate is added beforehand on the SSL/TLS Certificates screen.
Problem: The Form Is Left Halfway to Go to Another Screen
If an action, profile or health check needed while creating a vService does not exist yet, the form has to be closed, the related screen visited and the form returned to; this both takes time and can cause the half-finished entries to be lost.
Solution: Two Methods
Actions and vService profiles are created directly from the selector in the vService form, and the health check from the Backend Service window opened from the vService form.
| Your situation | Suitable method |
|---|---|
| Creating an action or a vService profile | Method 1: Add in the selector |
| Creating a health check profile | Method 2: Backend Service window |
Method 1: Add in the Selector Recommended
- How it works The Add button of the selector opens the record's own form as a window; the object saved in the window is selected in the selector automatically. A new action is added to the end of the Actions list.
- Where it is opened vService form → Details → related box → selector → Add
- Requirement The modify permission in the Load Balancer area. The SSL Security box is visible only if a protocol that terminates TLS is selected in at least one frontend row.
- vService type HTTP · L7 TCP (in the Network vService, the Details panel has only Report and LB algorithm)
Step-by-Step Configuration
On the Load Balancer → Load Balancer vService List screen, the Add button is clicked, or a vService is selected and the Edit button is clicked.
If an SSL profile is to be created, an option from the Encrypted (HTTPS) group (Encrypted (TLS) in L7 TCP) is selected in the Protocol selector of at least one frontend row.
The Details panel is opened and the related box is checked (e.g. SSL Security or Actions).
The selector of the box is opened and the Add button at the bottom of the list is clicked; the form of the record opens as a window. In the Actions window, only the action types suitable for this vService type are listed.
The fields are filled in the window and the record is created with the Add button of the window. The window closes and the new record comes selected in the selector; a new action is added to the end of the list (In what order do Actions run; how do I change the order?).
The vService form is saved with the Save button.
Verification
The related sentence is checked in the Load Balancer Management tab on the vService screen.
SSL security follows the <name> profileMethod 2: Health Check via the Backend Service Window
- How it works The health check is assigned to the Backend Service; in the new Backend Service window opened from the vService form, the profile is also created with the Add button of the Health Check selector.
- Where it is opened vService form → Default Backend Services selector → Backend Service → Health Check → Add
- Requirement The modify permission in the Load Balancer area.
- vService type HTTP · L7 TCP · Network
Step-by-Step Configuration
The Backend Service button in the Default Backend Services selector of the vService form is clicked; the new Backend Service window opens. The required fields are filled in (How is a Backend Service added; which information is required?).
The Health Check selector in the window is opened (the default value is No Check) and the Add button is clicked; the form of the health check profile opens.
The fields of the profile are filled in and the profile is saved with the Add button; the profile comes selected in the selector in the Backend Service window (What does a Health Check do; what happens if I don't assign one?).
The Add button in the Backend Service window is clicked; the new Backend Service is added to the list in the vService form.
The vService form is saved with the Save button.
Verification
The health status indicator of the new Backend Service is checked in the Backend Services list.
Green if the server respondsCommon Mistakes
- Looking for a Health check selector in the vService form. The health check is assigned to the Backend Service or the Backend Group.
- Not finding the SSL security box. If no frontend row has a protocol that terminates TLS, the box is hidden.
- Trying to add the certificate from the form as well. The Certificate selector has no Add; the certificate is added beforehand on the Certificates & PKI → SSL/TLS Certificates screen.
- Leaving without saving the vService. The object created in the window remains in the system but is not assigned to the vService; records that are not used anywhere appear in the Unused entries filter.
