Can I customize the vService dashboard with templates?
Short answer
Yes. The view tabs on the Dashboard are each a template; from the menu at the end of the tabs, a new template is created with Create New Template as an empty one and with Duplicate Current as a copy of the selected tab, panels are added with the Add Visualization card, and panels are moved and resized. Changes are saved instantly and per user; the same templates appear on all vService dashboards. Built-in tabs cannot be deleted but can be edited and are reverted with Reset to Default; Reset All to Defaults resets all templates and changes. At most 16 custom templates per user and at most 32 panels per tab are added.
Problem: The Panels Needed on the Dashboard Are Scattered
The metrics checked in daily monitoring are spread across different tabs; the panels needed are wanted gathered in a single view without moving between tabs every time.
Solution: Three Methods
All three paths are written to the same user record; the choice is between starting with an empty template, copying a built-in tab or changing a built-in tab directly.
| Your situation | Suitable method |
|---|---|
| I want to add only the panels I need to an empty template | Method 1: Create New Template |
| I want to start from a built-in tab and change it without breaking it | Method 2: Duplicate Current |
| I want to change a built-in tab directly | Method 3: Editing a built-in tab |
Method 1: Create New Template Recommended
- How it works The new empty template is added to the tab bar; panels are selected with the Add Visualization card.
- Where it is opened vService screen → Dashboard → the menu at the end of the tabs → Create New Template
- Requirement Access to the vService screen (Load Balancer or WAF monitoring permission)
- vService type All vService types
Step-by-Step Configuration
In the Left Monitor Panel, Load Balancer vServices is selected from the category selector and the vService is clicked (accessing the screen).
In the Dashboard tab, the menu at the end of the view tabs is opened and Create New Template is selected.
In the Create Custom Template window, Template Name is entered and confirmed. The new template opens selected.
The Add Visualization card is clicked.
Section (panel), Visualization Type, Row Span and Column Span are selected and confirmed.
Panels are moved from the handle in the header and resized from the bottom right corner (panel view icons). There is no save button; changes are saved instantly.
Verification
The Dashboard of another vService is opened.
The template appears there tooMethod 2: Duplicate Current
- How it works The panels of the selected tab are copied to a new template; the copy is edited freely and the built-in tab stays unchanged.
- Where it is opened Dashboard → the menu at the end of the tabs → Duplicate Current
- Requirement Access to the vService screen
- vService type All vService types
Step-by-Step Configuration
On the Dashboard, the view tab to be copied is clicked.
Duplicate Current is selected from the menu at the end of the tabs.
Template Name is entered and confirmed.
In the copy, panels are added, removed or rearranged; the name of the template is changed with Edit Template in the menu. Changes are saved instantly.
Verification
The tab bar is checked.
A new tab; the built-in tab unchangedMethod 3: Editing a Built-In Tab
- How it works Built-in tabs can also be edited; the change is saved only for that user and can be reverted.
- Where it is opened Dashboard → built-in view tab
- Requirement Access to the vService screen
- vService type All vService types
Step-by-Step Configuration
In the built-in tab, the Add Visualization card is clicked, and the panel is defined and confirmed as in step 5 of Method 1.
Edit or Remove is selected from the settings icon of the panel. Remove does not ask for confirmation. Changes are saved instantly.
From the menu, Reset to Default resets that tab, and Reset All to Defaults resets all templates and changes; both ask for confirmation. Double-clicking the tab also opens the Reset to Default confirmation.
Verification
The page is refreshed.
The layout is preservedCommon Mistakes
- Assuming the template belongs only to that vService. Templates belong to the user and appear on all vService dashboards; other users do not see these changes.
- Trying to delete a built-in tab. Built-in tabs cannot be deleted; changes are reverted with Reset to Default. Remove Template works only on user templates.
- Double-clicking a tab by mistake and accepting the confirmation. Double-clicking returns the tab to the default.
- Exceeding the limits. At most 16 templates per user and at most 32 panels per tab are added; a warning is shown at the limit (scope and limits).
